1. Fix Doorbell Power

When you are facing issues with your Nest doorbell not working, you should check that the doorbell is receiving enough power to work properly.

If the doorbell is battery-powered, you should ensure the battery is fully charged. If the battery is low, you should plug it into the power outlet to charge fully.

However, if the doorbell is not charging, you should try a few below solutions:

Check Power Source

You should check the power outlet where you have plugged the doorbell to ensure it provides enough power to charge the doorbell.

You can test the outlet by plugging a lamp in it; if the lamp isn’t lighting up, the outlet will be faulty and causing this problem.

In case you should use another power source to charge your doorbell or contact a technician to resolve the faulty outlet.

Check Breaker

Sometimes the circuit breaker at your home can be tripped or turned off due to a short circuit. So, you should check and turn it back on.

Check Cable

In a few cases, the doorbell’s charging cable can be faulty or prevent the doorbell from charging.

You should ensure you use the original Nest doorbell’s charging cable and check it carefully for any visible damage.

If you have another compatible charging cord, you can use it to check if the doorbell is charging. However, you can replace it and use a new one to charge the device.

Check Temperature

Extreme temperature conditions also can be a possible reason for your doorbell for not charging.

So, you should check the temperature in your region. If it is too hot or cool, it will prevent the doorbell from charging.

In case, you must remove your hardwired doorbell from the outside, plug it inside your house, and install it back on the wall once fully charged.

2. Update Nest App

An outdated or malfunctioning Nest app also may be a possible reason for this issue. The outdated version of the app can cause it to go offline, not connect or show incorrect data.

So, you should check your Nest mobile app to ensure it is running on the latest version. If the app is outdated, you should install the latest version on your phone.

Here are steps to update the Nest app:

1. Open the Play store / Apple App store app on your phone.

2. Then, search for the Nest app.

3. Click on the app icon from the search results.

4. Here, you’ll see a button labelled “update” if a new update is available.

5. Tap on Update and wait until it is completed.

3. Change Wi-Fi Settings

When your Nest doorbell is offline or not connecting to it, there will be a problem with your Wi-Fi network settings.

A few Nest products are incompatible with the 5GHz network; they only work on 2.4GHz frequency.

So, it can be why your Nest doorbell is not connecting to the app or going offline. You should read the device owner manual to ensure it supports dual-band frequencies.

However, if it supports only the 2.4GHz network, you should switch your router between 2.4 and 5GHz to connect the doorbell.

4. Reset the Doorbell

To resolve your Nest doorbell, you should also try a factory reset for the doorbell. Performing a factory reset will help to fix the doorbell.

Also, resetting will remove all kinds of device glitches or bugs that prevent it from connecting or causing it to go offline.

Here are the steps to reset the Nest doorbell:

1. Unmount the doorbell using the tool that comes with the device.

2. Then press and hold the reset button from the back of your doorbell for about 20 seconds.

Another common cause when your Nest doorbell isn’t working will be a slow or faulty Wi-Fi connection.

Here are a few solutions to resolve the Wi-Fi connection:

Power Cycle Router

While the doorbell goes offline or disconnects due to the slow or faulty Wi-Fi connection, you should try to power cycle the router to resolve it.

The power cycle includes turning off the power and connecting to power again; this method will refresh the router connection.

First, locate the power adapter, unplug it from the outlet, and wait about one minute. After one minute, plug it back into the outlet and connect it to the doorbell.

Reset Router

If the power cycle does not fix the router, you should factory reset your Wi-Fi router. Resetting will help you to remove device bugs or glitches.

Also, after resetting the device, it will turn back to its factory default settings, and you’ll need to set it up again and customize all settings.

Here are steps to reset the router:

1. Locate the reset button at the back of your router.

2. Long press it for about 15 seconds with a paperclip or other similar tool.

3. Release the button after 15 seconds and wait for the router to turn back on.

Place Closer

If the doorbell is constantly facing Wi-Fi issues, you should check that it is connected to a stable network.

If it has a weak Wi-Fi connection, you should check the router’s position and ensure it is placed closer to the doorbell.

If the router is placed away, you should relocate it and place it closer to the doorbell. It will help you to increase signals and keep the doorbell connected to the network.

Remove Interferences

Several times a few network interferences caused the doorbell and Wi-Fi connection issues. They cause an unstable connection with the router.

So, you should look for the network interferences between the router and the doorbell. And remove all kinds of devices that use Wi-Fi or emit radio waves.

6. Moderate Doorbell Temperature

You should also look at another essential solution: your Nest doorbell temperature. If the doorbell is overheated, it can disconnect or go offline to prevent any hardware damage.

You should touch the doorbell carefully; unmount it from its mounting plate and put it in the cool area if it feels warm.

Keep it in the clear ventilation area or in the AC room, and put it back on the wall when its temperature becomes moderate.

7. Contact Customer Support

If none of the above solutions fixes your Nest doorbell, you should contact Google Nest customer support.

The support team will be able to assist you with different solutions or provide you with a replacement of the doorbell without cost if it is under warranty.
