I had recently bought the device, excited to use it, so you can imagine how frustrated I was when Nest Doorbell Not Charging.
I tried troubleshooting the issue myself but couldn’t find any solution that worked. After doing some research online, I found a few possible solutions.
In this article, I will share my experience of dealing with Nest doorbells and what you should do if your doorbell is not functioning correctly.
Let’s get started!
How to Fix Nest Doorbell Not Charging
You should try these possible solutions to fix your Nest doorbell that isn’t charging.
1. Fix Power Source
When your Nest doorbell isn’t charging, you should check the device’s power supply to ensure it is receiving enough power.
And the doorbell is connected to the power outlet correctly. If the doorbell isn’t plugged in properly, it will not receive enough power to be charged fully.
You should check that the outlet you use to charge your doorbell is working correctly by plugging in another device you know is working.
If the other device, like the lamp, is not working with this power outlet, your power supply will be defective and prevent the doorbell from charging.
So, you should use another power source to charge your Nest doorbell and check if it is charging correctly.
2. Fix the Wiring
Another possible solution is checking your doorbell’s wiring and ensuring that wires are connected correctly to the doorbell and power outlet.
Also, you should check the power cable closely to check whether it is not damaged. The power cable can be damaged due to a twist, pinch, or hot weather.
If you find your Nest doorbell cable is faulty, you should replace it with a new and quality one.
3. Reset the Doorbell
Sometimes the doorbell can stop charging due to temporary software glitches or bugs. All of the software bugs can be removed by performing a factory reset for your doorbell.
A factory reset turns the device back to its default settings and removes all kinds of glitches.
So, you should perform a factory reset for your Nest doorbell to remove the device bugs and get it back working correctly.
You should follow the steps below to reset the Nest doorbell:
1. First, unmount the doorbell from its mounting plate by using the tool which is equipped with the doorbell.
2. Next, press and hold the reset button from the back of the doorbell for about 15 seconds using the paperclip or another similar tool.
3. Release the reset button once you hear a beep and see solid status light.
4. Check Circuit Breaker
Sometimes the circuit breaker in your house can be tripped due to a short circuit in the wiring.
You should check your circuit breaker to ensure it is not tripped or turned off. If so, you will need to turn it back on.
And then, check your doorbell to ensure if it is now charging, and wait until it is fully charged.
5. Check Temperature
You should also consider checking your device temperature to check that the doorbell isn’t overheated.
Because if your doorbell is overheated, it will stop charging or disconnect from wifi to prevent any hardware damage.
So, you should check the doorbell if it feels hot, remove it from the mounting plate and put it inside your home/ office.
And keep the doorbell in an area with ventilation or in the AC room, wait until the doorbell temperature becomes moderate, and plug it back on the wall.
You should also change the doorbell position and install it in the shadow area or away from direct sunlight.
6. Check Weather
Temperature is another factor that causes doorbell charging problems. An extreme temperature can prevent the doorbell from charging.
So, you should check the temperature in your region; if it is too hot or cold, it will be the reason for this problem.
In case, you should remove the doorbell from the wall and put it inside to charge fully. At room temperature, the doorbell can be charged correctly.
Once your device is fully charged, you should install it back on the wall.
7. Update Software
If other solutions do not fix the doorbell charging issue, you should look at the doorbell software update.
The software update can fix the charging issue, as an outdated version can prevent it from charging.
You can check the firmware or software update available for your Nest doorbell in the Nest app and install it if available.
