I have been experiencing an issue with my Wemo doorbell camera for the last few days. It was not responding on the phone or in-home chime.
I tried a few things to fix it, but it did not work, so I researched the Internet and found several possible ways to resolve the doorbell.
In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps to fix your Wemo doorbell that isn’t working.

How to Fix Wemo Doorbell Camera Not Responding
You can fix your Wemo doorbell camera using these possible solutions.
1. Ensure you’ve Mechanical Chime
If you’ve installed the doorbell currently and it is not responding on the chime, you should first consider checking to ensure the chime is mechanical.
Because the Wemo doorbell only supports a mechanical chime, it will not ring on a digital in-home chime.
If you’ve not connected the doorbell to a mechanical chime, it is the reason your doorbell is unresponsive. You should change the chime box with a compatible one.
2. Enable Chime
Suppose you have installed a mechanical chime that is connected to your Wemo doorbell, but it is still not responding.
So, in this case, you should check the chime settings and ensure it is enabled in the app. Because by default, it will be set to turn “off” when you set up your doorbell.
You should open the Home app on your phone and then go to the chime doorbell settings. Toggle ON the option and try again by pressing the doorbell.
3. Power Outage
If the doorbell has a power outage or is installed, it will take about 30 minutes to charge the internal battery to work.
After about 30 minutes, when the internal battery is fully charged, the doorbell will be turned on and start ringing on your mechanical chime.
4. Check Power & Transformer
This issue mostly occurs when the doorbell doesn’t receive proper power or is completely powered off. It can be due to faulty doorbell wiring or an incompatible transformer.
In this situation, you should check your doorbell power status and ensure it is powered on and receiving enough power.
Also, you should inspect the transformer; it should be compatible with the doorbell. The Manufacturer’s recommended transformer is 16V / 30VA or 24V / 30VA.
If your transformer is not rated as mentioned above, you should replace it with a new compatible one. You can replace it yourself or contact an electrician to do so.
5. Ensure Home hub and Doorbell at Same Network
When your doorbell isn’t responding when its button is pressed or events are recorded, it will be due to a communication error between the Home Hub and the doorbell.
So, you should check your doorbell and the Home hub to ensure both are connected to the same network.
If the doorbell and Home hub are connected to different networks, it will be the reason for its unconditional behavior or malfunctioning.
You should disconnect the devices from other network connections and switch them to the same stable Wi-Fi connection.
6. Factory Reset the Doorbell
If all of the solutions mentioned have not fixed the doorbell, you should consider performing a factory reset for your doorbell.
Factory reset is a common method that returns the device to its factory default settings and removes all kinds of stored data.
This is mostly used when you are facing issues with the device; it removes the device bugs and when you are going to sell the device.
Here are steps to reset your Wemo doorbell:
1. Unscrew the security screw from the bottom of your doorbell and unmount it from the mounting bracket.
2. Locate the reset button at the back of your router to reset the doorbell.
3. Press and hold the reset button using a paperclip or other similar tool for about 1-3 seconds.
4. Release the button when the light on the front of the doorbell turns off. The doorbell will be automatically rebooted.
5. Place the doorbell back at its mounting plate and tighten the security screw.
7. Fix Wi-Fi Connection
If your Wemo doorbell isn’t ringing on your phone or you are unable to see the live view remotely, it will be due to a faulty Wi-Fi connection.
While your doorbell or mobile phone is not connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, you can face this issue with the doorbell.
You should check your network speed using online Internet speed checker software. Also, you can check the Wi-Fi connection another way.
Connect your phone or laptop to the Wi-Fi router and open the web browser/ other online software. If you cannot use/ open it, your network connection will be faulty or slow.
Here are a few solutions you can use to fix your router connection:
The most common solution is to power cycle your Wi-Fi router. Which generally includes unplugging the power or the router and connecting the power again.
Here is how you can power cycle your router:
1. Locate the power adapter of the router.
2. Unplug the adapter from the power outlet.
3. Wait a few minutes and replug the router into the power outlet.
If the Wi-Fi network connection is still not fixed, you can perform a factory reset for your router. Factory reset will return your router back to its factory default settings.
It will also remove the router glitches/ bugs that cause issues with the device. After resetting, you must set up the router again from the start over.
1. Switch on the router and locate the reset button at the back of the router.
2. Long press the reset button using a paperclip or other similar tool for about 15 seconds.
3. Release the button and wait a few seconds until the router reboots.
8. Contact Customer Support
If none of the above methods have fixed your Wemo doorbell issues, you should contact customer support.
Customer support will assist you with further solutions, helping you get the doorbell working perfectly back.
