I bought a Ring doorbell a few days ago, opened the package and began the setup process. But ring doorbell not going into setup mode , no matter what I tried. I tried several troubleshooting methods, but nothing seemed to work.
Then I researched the Internet and found a few possible solutions that helped me resolve this issue.
When setting up the Ring doorbell, it should automatically enter the setup mode. However, if it isn’t going automatically into setup mode, you should press the orange setup button to enter it manually.
Let’s take a deep look at other possible solutions!
How to Fix Ring Doorbell not going into the Setup Mode
These are the possible solutions that you should try to resolve the Ring doorbell setup mode issues.
1. Diagnose Problem
To begin with, diagnosing the problem for this issue, you should ensure that the doorbell is fully charged and has a good Wi-Fi connection.
So, check that you have charged the battery and use it at an optimal temperature.
However, you can also check it in the Ring app under the device health section.
2. Reset the Doorbell
This issue with the Ring doorbell is common due to software glitches, which can be resolved by resetting the device.
The resetting method will roll back the doorbell to its factory default settings and remove the software bugs.
It will help get the device into setup mode. Here are steps to reset the Ring doorbell:
- Unmount the doorbell from its mounting bracket.
- Press and hold the orange reset button for 20 seconds.
- After releasing the button, the doorbell’s LED will flash a few times, indicating that it is resetting.
- This process will take about a minute, then press the setup button to put it back into the setup mode.
3. Check Battery
If you’ve bought a new doorbell and get out of the box right now, you should plug it into the charger for about 2 hours.
Because it does not come with fully charged batteries, due to preserving their battery life. So, a new doorbell might not go into setup mode due to a low battery.
Plug it into a standard wall outlet and unplug it until it is fully charged. The battery pack is fully charged when only one green light is lit.
And then, put the battery pack back into the doorbell and check if it now goes into the setup mode without showing an error.
4. Check Transformer
When facing this issue, you must check that you have installed the correct transformer for the Ring doorbell.
According to the Ring, it should meet the minimal requirements criteria, which should be 16V AC.
If your transformer is rated below 16V, it will cause your doorbell to receive low power and won’t go into setup mode.
You can also use a multimeter to measure the voltage readings of the transformer that it is providing.
If it does not provide enough power to your Ring device, replace it with a correct voltage ratings transformer.
5. Use a Correct Wire Gauge
One of the other reasons for your Ring doorbell to not go into setup mode is that you haven’t used the correct wire gauge.
A wire gauge is responsible for powering up the doorbell and keeping it in working condition.
You should use a wire gauge with no more resistance and a perfect balance.
An 18-gauge wire is a great choice for the Ring doorbell, as it has little resistance and provides a perfect balance.
However, several wire gauges, such as; 12, 14, 22, and 24, will not be suitable for the Ring device as they have much resistance.
6. Update Software
You should also ensure your Ring doorbell runs on an up-to-date software version. If the device software is outdated, you can face similar issues.
In order to keep the doorbell running correctly, you should install the latest software version for your Ring device.
Here are steps to check the Ring doorbell software:
- Open the Ring app on your phone.
- And then select the Ring doorbell > and tap on device health.
- Under the device details, find firmware.
- If it says “device is up-to-date”, the doorbell is updated.
- However, if it shows several updates available, all of these will be installed when an event is recorded.
7. Check Wi-Fi Connection
You should also check your Wi-Fi connection to ensure it isn’t faulty. If the network that you are using with the Ring doorbell, you should fix it.
First, you should check the network by connecting your mobile phone or tablet to this network.
And then try opening and using the web browser; if it isn’t loading on your phone, it means your Wi-Fi network is faulty.
You can try a few possible solutions, including; power cycling, resetting, placing closer the doorbell, checking username or password and monthly subscriptions.
8. Reset Wi-Fi Router
If the router is the basic reason for this problem, you should perform a factory reset for the Wi-Fi router.
After resetting, your router will be refreshed and returned to its factory default setting. Also, resetting helps to remove software bugs that might cause this issue.
Here are steps to reset the router:
- Locate the reset button at the back of your router.
- Press and hold it with a paperclip or other similar tool for about 30 seconds.
- Release the button and wait for the router to finish the reset and power back on.
Once the Wi-Fi router is reset, you should connect it to the doorbell again and try putting it into setup mode and connecting.
9. Place the Router Closer
While you’ve tried resetting your router, the doorbell still faces the same problem. You should check to ensure you’ve placed the router closer to the doorbell.
Because if the router is not closer to the doorbell due to the weak signals, you can face connection issues.
You should keep your Wi-Fi router about in the 100-meter range of the doorbell. However, the range can be decreased due to connection interferences.
10. Contact Customer Support
If still the Ring doorbell is stuck on this issue, no matter what method you’ve tried. You should consider contacting Ring customer support.
The support team will help you resolve this problem and assist you with different solutions.
